“Constantly painting and drawing the grasses and flowers in the ever changing meadow outside the studio window necessarily led to a studying of the connected themes starting with the cycle of nature, paradoxical in its beauty and cruelty. An essay by Thomas McEvilley about the work of Anselm Keifer describes the pathos of the passing flower, as personified by Persephone being carried away by Hades, but doesn’t forget that there will be new life the following year.
